Theodor Renaud

Theodor Renaud (pseudoym: Theodor Vulpinus ) (born February 6, 1844 in Erlangen , † September 28, 1910 in Strasbourg ) was a German writer .

Life

As the son of the French Reformed preacher Jacques Renaud, who came from a refugee family, Renaud studied Protestant theology in Erlangen and Berlin after attending grammar school in Erlangen . During his studies he became a member of the Bubenreuther fraternity in the winter semester of 1861/62 .

After completing his studies, he became pastor of the Reformed community in Bayreuth in 1867 . In 1872 he resigned and worked as editor of the Strasbourg newspaper . In 1876 he was appointed imperial district school inspector in Rappoltsweiler . He later worked in the same function in Colmar . In 1889 he became a government and school councilor of the district government in Colmar. In 1905 he became a Privy Councilor when he retired and moved to Strasbourg.

In 1904 he became a board member of the Church of the Augsburg Confession . In 1905 in Strasbourg he became president of the Alsa Federation , an association of pastors and teachers interested in literature who published the magazine Erwinia .

He wrote German and Latin poems , some of which were set to music by Alexander von Zemlinsky and Heinrich Zöllner . His poem Kaiser Wilhelm I was included in an earlier edition of the German Kommersbuch . He also worked as a translator .
