Theodor Stankeit (born August 20, 1848 in Düsseldorf , † June 19, 1927 in Essen - Altenessen ) was a German politician .

Theodor Stankeit attended elementary school in Büttgen on the Lower Rhine until he was 12 years old and was then taught by a pastor. He also did his first training in Büttgen.

At the mayor's office in Willich / Anrath he completed an apprenticeship from August 20, 1868 to August 15, 1970. At the city administration of Rheydt (from 1975 to Mönchengladbach ) he was first secretary from August 16, 1870 to December 15, 1871, and directly subsequently city secretary in Mönchengladbach until December 26, 1873.

From December 27, 1873 to October 10, 1886 Stankeit was mayor of Lobberich (from 1970 to the city of Nettetal ). At the same time he was mayor of Boisheim from September 1875 (at Viersen from 1970 ). Stankeit married Maria Kessels (1857–1881) in 1876, they had the children Theodor and Maria.

On October 11, 1886, he was appointed mayor of the Altenessen mayor's office. He held this office until it was incorporated into the city of Essen on April 1, 1915. That was the day he retired. The mayor's office of Altenessen made some demands on the city of Essen for incorporation, for which Stankeit submitted a list of 27 points on December 12, 1911; including the demands for the expansion of Altenessener Straße, the construction of a bathing establishment, a girls' middle school, a gym with a youth home and an extension of the Kaiser Wilhelm Park . The city of Essen fulfilled almost all requirements, which was beneficial for the incorporation.

The founding of the horticultural association for the city and district of Essen on December 12, 1919, which is the forerunner of today's city ​​association of allotment gardening associations in Essen , dates back to Stankeit's initiative .
