Theodor Wende

Theodor Wende (born December 3, 1883 in Berlin , † February 6, 1968 in Pforzheim ) was a German goldsmith and silversmith .

life and work

Wende completed an apprenticeship in Berlin from 1898. He then worked as a journeyman in Berlin until 1905. He studied from 1905 to 1907 at the state drawing academy in Hanau . From 1908 to 1912 he studied with Petersen, Joseph Wackerle and Hanns Bastanier at the Berlin School of Applied Arts . From 1913 to 1921 Wende was a member of the Darmstadt artists' colony , where he succeeded Ernst Riegel , who had moved to Cologne.

In the first World War turnaround was 1,918 soldiers by the year. After the war he worked as a gold and silversmith in Darmstadt . From 1921 he was a professor at the Badische Kunstgewerbeschule Pforzheim . In 1951 he retired .

Wende's work belongs to Art Nouveau . After his death, a large part of his estate went to the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt .

In 1914, Wende sent the third exhibition at the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt. His goldsmith's work could be seen here alongside designs for funerary art.
In 1919 he presented new works in the Ernst Ludwig House in Darmstadt.
