He was a son of the privy councilor Hans Frederik von Levetzau (* 1711 on Bygholm; † 1763 ibid) and his wife Sophie geb. von Eynden (Eyndten) (* 1718; † 1795). There is only uncertain news about his childhood, except that he was baptized on November 24, 1742. As early as 1749, Levetzau became a chamberlain and from 1763 was in the service of Frederick of Denmark (1753-1805). In 1781 Levetzau became a canon bishop of the Aalborg diocese and at the same time bailiff of Aalborghus Amt, Åstrup, Sejlstrup and Børglum Amt. From 1789 to 1817 he was Landdrost of the Pinneberg rule. During this time (from 1792) von Levetzau became more and more sickly and retired in 1817, he died only some time later in Kiel.

Theodosius von Levetzau was born with Caroline Sophie. Holck (1742–1811), daughter of Lieutenant General Christian Christopher Holck and sister of Conrad Holck , married. From this marriage the daughter Sophie Armgoth emerged, who died on February 2, 1771 as a child.
