history

The diocese was detached from the diocese of Viborg in 1059 under the name of Vendelbo . The first seat was the church of Vestervig . Under Bishop Sylvester (1134–1136) the seat was moved to Børglum Monastery . For several centuries the name was Børglum ( Diocesis Burglanensis ). The last Roman Catholic bishop Stygge Krumpen was deposed in 1536; Founded in 1554, but before that Børglum Monastery served as the bishopric. In the course of the Reformation , the bishops were first referred to as superintendents ; it was not until the 17th century that they reassumed the title of bishop. On September 29, 1554, the bishopric became Sct. Relocated Budolfi Domkirke Aalborg .
