Theresa Rinecker

Theresa Rinecker (* 1964 in Merseburg , Halle district , GDR ) is a German Protestant theologian who was elected as the new general superintendent in the Görlitz parish of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia in March 2018 . She took up her position on October 1, 2018, the spiritual introduction took place as part of a festive divine service on October 14, 2018 in the Görlitzer Peterskirche by Bishop Markus Dröge .

Life

Theresa Rinecker grew up in a Catholic family. She studied theology at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and graduated in 1989 with a diploma . While still a student, she converted to the Protestant church . In 1991 she was ordained after passing the second theological exam . From 1991 to 2007 she worked as a pastor in the communities Queienfeld and Bad Berka as well as in pastoral care at the Bad Berka Central Clinic in the Bad Berka Hospice and in pastoral psychology.

Since January 1st, 2008 Theresa Rinecker has been the leader of the pastoral care seminar of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany (EKM) based in Weimar and Halle (Saale) . Here she worked as a teaching supervisor for the German Society for Pastoral Psychology . In addition, she performed a preaching assignment in Weimar and was spokeswoman for the EKM's MDR radio team. She had applied for the new regional bishopric in the Görlitz district. Another candidate was Ulrike Menzel , who was defeated in the election in the Cottbus upper church St. Nikolai .

The general superintendent is responsible for six church districts, regional conferences and convents. She is a member of the regional synod, the church leadership and various committees of the EKBO and VELKD (United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germany). The Görlitz district stretches from the Oderbruch to the Polish border and has around 170,000 Protestant community members. Rinecker sees it as his duty to be “an approachable, reliable local church leadership”. She wants to be a lawyer for her district and at the same time a good pastor to the pastors and church workers in her area . With her inauguration she replaces the previous general superintendent Martin Herche , who was retiring.
