Therese Mirani
Therese Mirani (born December 2, 1824 in Prague , † May 24, 1901 in Vienna ) was an Austrian artisan .
biography
She was the daughter of the writer Johann Heinrich Mirani (1802–1873).
Her skills in sewing and processing fabrics for clothes soon made her products very popular. She invented a new type of embroidery , called broderie dentelle , and the points imperial , a new type of lace. She began to supply the Viennese court and in 1865 she was awarded the title of " kk chamber art embroiderer ". The award of the chamber title to a woman by virtue of her own work was extremely rare for the time, an honor she only shared with Maria Benkowits , also a chamber artist embroiderer. In 1867 she was awarded a medal at the Paris World Exhibition and was the first woman on the jury .
She was initially the first teacher at the Imperial and Royal School for Art Embroidery of the Ministry of Commerce in Vienna. After the death of the director Emilie Bach (1840–1890) she became director.
Therese Mirani was also active as a journalist in the field of fashion , female work and housework and was an employee of the " Neue Freie Presse ", " Wiener Mode ", " Illustrierte Frauenzeitung ", " Vom Fels zum Meer " and the like. a.
On the occasion of her retirement in 1899, she was awarded the golden cross of merit with the crown . She died two years later at the age of 77.
