Theresian Apostolate Movement

The Theresian Apostolate Movement ( en . : Teresian Apostoli Movement ; es . : Movimiento Teresiano de Apostolado ; fr . : Mouvement Thérésien d'Apostolat ; official abbreviation: MTA ) is a Roman Catholic association of believers and practices the lay apostolate . It was recognized by the Holy See in 1977 and has 37,600 members spread across 21 countries worldwide.

history

In 1873, Enrique de Ossó y Cervelló (1840-1896) founded the Arch-Brotherhood of the Daughters of the Immaculate Mary and Theresa of Jesus in Tortosa (Spain) ( Spanish Compañía de Santa Teresa de Jesús ). From this the Society of St. Theresa developed , which is integrated into the Theresian family of Enrico Ossó . At the instigation of the Society of St. Theresa, the Theresian Apostolate Movement is founded. On July 12, 1977, the movement received canonical confirmation by the Holy See and on November 21, 1990, it was recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity as an international association of believers under papal law.

Self-image

The Christian self-image of the movement is based on the three areas of "inwardness, apostolic service and community", as they are derived from the spirituality of St. Theresa of Avila (1515–1582). The most important characteristics of the course of life include daily personal prayer , spiritual exercises , community prayer , participation in community life, the daily Eucharistic celebration , devotion to Mary and reading of the Holy Scriptures . The members do their work in families , in professional life, in society and politics , in parishes and in helping those in need.

Organization and expansion

Basically, all leadership functions are in the hands of the nuns of the "Society of St. Theresa of Jesus". The movement is divided into the main branches “Friends of Jesus”, “Children and Young People” and “Community for Adults”. Organizationally, it is structured in the local, provincial and general level, the individual layers are of a superior or Provincial Superior led the overall direction is in the hands of the Superior General of the Society of Saint Teresa of Jesus that their General House in Rome has.

The number of members is given as 37,600, which are distributed worldwide in 21 countries in Africa (3), Asia (1), Europe (3), North America (6) and South America (8). The movement maintains the school facilities "Colegio Teresiano Managua" in Managua ( Nicaragua ) and the "Colegio Teresiano De Bogota" in Bogotá ( Colombia ).
