Thicker than Water is an American surf film from 2000 and the musician Jack Johnson's first work as a filmmaker.

The film opened in theaters in the United States on January 1, 2000 . The DVD was released on May 12, 2000. The soundtrack for the film was released in Germany on January 6, 2004 and was available in stores from July 2, 2004.

Thicker than Water shows a journey through the North Atlantic via the Indian Ocean to the North Pacific. Together with his surfing and school friend Chris Malloy from the University of California Film School and his brother Emmett Malloy , they produced recordings of surfers at surf spots like Australia, Indonesia, Hawaii, India and Ireland and show them in combination with the guitar music created by Johnson himself . Jack Johnson takes the viewer on a visual and musical adventure that tries to capture the magic of surfing.
