Think Tank is the seventh studio album by the band Blur and was released on May 5, 2003.
The album is the only Blur album that was written and recorded for the most part without guitarist Graham Coxon , as he had left the band shortly before. He only worked on the song Battery in Your Leg . The musical style of Think Tank is characterized not least by the fact that it largely renounces the band's previous Britpop guitar sound, which has been replaced by experimental structures and instruments. Influences from world music , jazz and hip-hop can also be seen. The inconsistent style of the album explains the title Think Tank ( dt . Think tank ), the artistic expression as verschiedenster impulses creativity is to be understood. The originally planned title Darklife (an allusion to the successful album Parklife ) points to the pessimistic mood of the lyrics.
The cover design of the album comes from the British street artist Banksy .
The album was received largely positively, and the newspaper The Observer voted it “Album of the Year” in 2003. The New Musical Express included Think Tank on its list of the 100 best albums of the decade in November 2010 (20th place)
