Thomas (I.) Venetz
Thomas Venetz (* before 1392 ; † before May 22, 1453 ) was governor of Valais .
Career
Thomas Venetz came from Saas and was a son of Anton Venetz and Francisca von Chouson . Through this connection the Meiertum of St. Niklaus came into his family as an inheritance. Under Bishop Andreas dei Benzi he was governor twice. The Gerunden monastery near Sierre , abandoned by the Carthusians , was given to the Carmelites in 1428 . In the same year there was a reorganization of the witch trials. During his second term in office, the bishop had to accept the district administrator as the highest authority. Den Zenden Visp he represented in 1446 when an alliance was concluded with the Count of Savoy and the city of Bern.
