Thomas Ammann (born November 21, 1953 ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ). He has been on the Cantonal Council of the Canton of St. Gallen since 2012 . With the 2020/2024 legislature, Ammann took over the office of FDP parliamentary group president.

Life

Thomas Ammann grew up as the fourth of five children in Gossau . He attended primary and secondary school there and then the St. Gallen canton school . After graduating from high school , Ammann studied medicine at the University of Zurich from 1973 to 1979 . After further training as a doctor for general internal medicine, he opened a family doctor's practice in Waldkirch in 1986 .

Ammann held various positions in the political community of Waldkirch, u. a. also as the school board president of the senior high school from 1997 to 2006. In terms of professional ethics , he was active as president of the Gossau general practitioner association, as president of the regional doctors' association in Gossau-Untertoggenburg-Wil and as a board member of the cantonal medical association of St. Gallen.

Ammann is involved in various voluntary functions. He is President of the Board of Trustees of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Service St. Gallen and a member of the board of directors of Bussola (crisis intervention children and adolescents).

Ammann is married and has four children.
