Thomas Beeby

Thomas H. Beeby (* 1941 ) is an American architect and member of the so-called Chicago Seven , a group of postmodern architects of the first generation in Chicago. He was also Chairman of Hammond, Beeby, Rupert, Ainge Architects (HBRA) for over 39 years. He is considered a representative of New Urbanism and Neoclassicism .

life and work

Beeby first studied at Cornell University , where he earned his bachelor's degree in architecture. In 1965 he graduated from Yale University with a Masters. In 1971 he founded the architectural firm Hammond Beeby & Associates with James Hammond. He also held academic positions at the Illinois Institute of Technology , the University of Illinois and the Yale School of Architecture . In 1991 he was made a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects .

As one of the Chicago Seven Architects, Beeby brought traditional urban design and architecture to the public consciousness. The one with the Pulitzer Prize excellent critic of the Chicago Tribune , Blair fireplace, called the influence of the group the "change of the Chicago Seven helped the price of urban architecture critical spirit."

Seven of Beeby's projects received the National Honor Award , the highest distinction from the American Institute of Architects.

Awards

Thomas Beeby was awarded the Richard H. Driehaus Prize from the University of Notre Dame in 2013 . The prize money was USD 200,000 plus a bronze miniature.
