"Et Klimpermännche" Thomas Cüpper (2014)

Thomas Peter Cüpper (born September 9, 1966 in Bensberg - Herkenrath , now Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German hand-made speaker , emcee , musician, composer and lyricist who writes and performs mostly in the Cologne language ( Ripuarian ) under his stage name Et Klimpermännche . He has been performing at the Cologne Carnival since 1998 and is considered the Kölsch original .

Life

Cüpper learned to play the accordion and the organ from the age of five . At first he was known as a solo entertainer, mainly on WERSI organs in Cologne and the surrounding area, from the age of 12 . In 1997 he was presented to the President of the Festival Committee of the Cologne Carnival 1823 eV , Hans-Horst Engels, on the recommendation of Hubert Bel (then a writer from the KG Narrengilde Köln ) . He engaged him for the Cologne prince proclamation and the WDR radio meeting in 1999 and recommended him to the literary committee of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee, where he was then allowed to perform at the Cologne Carnival.

Since 1998 he has appeared in Cologne and the Rhineland as "Et Klimpermännche" and is particularly well known as an interpreter of Willi Ostermann songs . His first appearances in the large Cologne halls such as B. the Gürzenich , the Sartory or the Flora , he graduated from 1999 at the carnival meetings of the honor guard of the city of Cologne in 1902 , where he always set the end of the program.

With the nature of his appearances he embodies the traditional genre of the rather quiet carnival paired with hand-made speech and singing. Through appearances and a. at meetings of the carnival societies Die Große of 1923 , the Große Kölner Karnevalsgesellschaft and the Kölschen Funken Rut-Weiß from 1823 his fame increased. He was also seen in broadcasts of the carnival sessions by ZDF and at the ARD television session.

The fact that modern and traditional carnivals are different, but can still harmonize, was shown at two concerts by the Cologne group Brings together with Thomas Cüpper in September 2008 in the Kulturkirche Köln-Nippes.

In 2012, Cüpper received Rolf Zuckowski 's approval to add a special Cologne text to the song: “ In the Christmas Bakery ” and to publish it.

Since 2015 he has been one of the few individual interpreters in the program of the Lachenden Kölnarena events and at the opening of the sessions in the Kölnarena (today Lanxess Arena ), which are one of the largest carnival events in Germany with 15,000 visitors each.

In addition to the carnival, Cüpper also appears in events for Cologne Christmas. From 2003 to 2016 he organized his own stage programs in the large theater of the Bergisches Löwen together with author Heinz Monheim, among others . From 2005 until its last performance in December 2013, he appeared as a permanent guest in the Cologne Philharmonic at Ludwig Sebus ' Christmas event "Et jeit op hillich Ovend an".

In February 2017, the Cologne liqueur factory M. Laufenberg launched a whiskey liqueur with the name “Klimpermännche”. Cüpper, who is a self-confessed whiskey connoisseur, contributed to the recipe and designed the bottle label.

Since 2007 Cüpper has been under contract with the Cologne label Dabbelju Music ; this is how the songs “Metallemann”, “Höhnerwalzer” and “Dä Zeddel” were created in collaboration with Wolfgang Löhr . In the 2019 carnival session, Cüpper wrote the song “Uns Sproch es Heimat” to the melody “ The Flower of Scotland ”, which corresponded to the Cologne session motto. Usually always on stage as a soloist, this year he was supported by the bagpiper Marc Steffen.

Cüpper celebrates its 22nd stage anniversary in 2020; he lives with his wife in Bergisch Gladbach -Sand.
