The Carnival Society EhrenGarde der Stadt Köln 1902 eV is a riding corps and one of the nine traditional corps in the Cologne Carnival as well as a full member of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee and a member of the Bund Deutscher Carneval . Because of their green and yellow uniforms, the EhrenGuard is also called "Spinach with Egg".

history

The EhrenGarde was founded on November 11, 1900 in the Metzmacher restaurant in the Rheingasse in Cöln as a riding corps. The year "1902" was added to the name of the corps only after the debut in the Carnival Monday procession in 1902. As the accompanying guard of the Cologne farmer and the Cologne virgin , the honor guard stands under the motto: "To the farmer to defend, to the virgin to honor".

When the festival committee in 1902 the new tab Corps in Rosenmontagszug did not want to concede to the square in front Bauer and Virgin, who grabbed guard of honor to a list: Bauer and Virgin pretended to concerted site, a car breakdown before and so gave the honor guard the opportunity to "Rubbedidupp" in to cut in the Rose Monday procession. Since then, the riders and floats of the EhrenGarde have taken their place in front of the Tollitäten Bauer and Jungfrau in the Rose Monday procession. The “battle cry” of the honor guard “Rubbedidupp” (German for “in no time at all”) reminds us of this .

By decision of the festival committee in 1913, the honor guard should from now on regularly provide farmers and virgins. When, after the First World War , however, could be celebrated again the carnival in 1926, the honor guard presented only the aides of Bauer and virgin, and that makes the Honor Guard to this day. It was not until 1926 that kept guard of honor and meetings , and balls.

The EhrenGarde has been a full member of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee since 1925 . In the same year, today's uniforms were designed, which are intended to remind of the Frederick riders and are based on the uniforms of the Red Sparks .

In 1927 the EhrenGarde , as the first corps in the history of the carnival, provided Klare Weiglein with a female dance partner , known as the “regiment daughter”, to the then dance officer .

The Hahnentorburg , domicile of the Honor Guard

In 1953 the EhrenGarde sent a complete triumvirate from its ranks for the first time. Also in 1959, 1961, 1977, 1992 and 2009 the EhrenGarde provided the triumvirate of prince, farmer and virgin.

In 1989, took over honor guard responsible for the owned by the City of Cologne located Hahnentorburg . Since then, there has been a meeting room, a board room, the clothes and tack room as well as the archive and the EhrenGarde Museum . With great financial efforts, the renovation work in the interior and exterior of the Hahnentorburg was completed in 2008.

Since 1981, the Cologne belongs provost as regimental priest to honor guard . With Heinz Werner Ketzer (1981) and Bernard Henrichs (1996) two regimental priests were awarded the Order Against Animal Seriousness , which were led by the Honor Guard to Aachen for the award .

The ZDF regularly transmits the large traditional since 1996 Prunksitzung as a television meeting "Typically Kölsch".

In 2002 the EhrenGarde donated the so-called "parable window" in Cologne Cathedral . The Archbishop of Cologne, Joachim Cardinal Meisner, took over the consecration and held the pontifical office . The EhrenGarde is a member of the Central Cathedral Building Association in Cologne .

The Senate of the Honor Guard was founded on April 18, 1950. The Senate is the financial backbone of the association and contributes significantly to the promotion and fulfillment of the statutory purposes and the social life of the association. The aim is to provide financial and ideal support to the active corps. The Senate has around 150 male members and four women honorary senators. Only five new members are accepted into the Senate each year. Senate President is Michael Kreuzberg (as of 2016) . Helmut Meindorf was appointed Honorary Senate President. The Senate of the Honor Guard is represented with its own float during the Rose Monday procession.

The corps à la suite

On the initiative of then President Ferdi Leisten , the "Corps à la suite" was founded in January 1971. The Corps à la suite sees itself as a supporter of Cologne customs, a sponsor of the children's dance group and the Rose Monday procession. It awards honorary memberships such as to ZDF director Markus Schächter , to Archbishop Joachim Cardinal Meisner , to Ford boss Bernhard Mattes , to Alfred Neven DuMont and to IHK President Paul Bauwens-Adenauer .

The sponsors

In recognition of the efforts of the sponsors, at the 2001 annual general meeting, the “EhrenGarde Sponsorship Association” was anchored in the statutes as an independent structure. The sponsorship group currently has 29 members, the spokesperson has been Wolf Jeromin since 2002. The then President and now Honorary President Rainer Benner has endeavored since 1996 to win over a group of personalities inside and outside the Honor Guard in order to finance projects such as the EhrenGarde anniversary book, the Hahnentorburg Festival and part of the donated cathedral window.

Currently more than 400 men and women are inactive members. Inactive members are entitled Corps cap , tunic and orders to carry, but are exempt from the Uniform coercion. In 2016, the inactive celebrate their 80th anniversary.
