The Carnival Society Bürgergarde "blau-gold" from 1904 eV Cologne is one of the nine traditional corps in the Cologne Carnival as well as a full member of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee and a member of the Bund Deutscher Karneval .

history

The civil guard "blue-gold" is an honor field carnival society. Ehrenfeld received the 1867 municipal law and was 1888 by Cologne incorporated. The city colors were blue and gold. The Bürgergarde is an amalgamation of the Große Cöln-Ehrenfelder CG from 1904, the Allgemeine Ehrenfelder KG from 1911 and the Ehrenfelder KG “Funkengarde blau-gold” from 1951. At the request of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee , the three Ehrenfeld carnival societies should join forces. In 1955 the "Große Allgemeine Ehrenfelder KG blue-gold" was created . In 1971 the long-time president of the society, Hans Wallpott, had the idea of founding a corps in traditional Frederickian uniforms, just like the other corps have. The colors should be "blue-gold". In 1981 the company changed its name again to Bürgergarde "blue-gold" .

The Bürgergarde is a founding member of the Ehrenfeld Carnival Festival Committee, founded in 1953, and the sponsoring company of the Ehrenfeld Tuesday procession, which takes place on Violet Tuesday and which started in 1954 as "Ihrfelder Kinderzog" and is one of the largest district trains in Cologne. In addition, the Ehrenfeld Carnival Festival Committee , to which the Citizens Guard is a leading member, established the Cologne children's triumvirate in 1965 . In the first few years, the triumvirate of children was selected and looked after by the citizen guard . A few years ago, the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee took over the patronage of the children's triumvirate.

On February 10, 2001, the Citizens Guard was appointed a traditional corps by the then Festival Committee President Hans-Horst Engels .

In the 2010/2011 session , the civil guard "blue-gold" with Frank Steffens as Prince Frank I , Günter Flüch as the farmer Günter and Hans René Sion as the virgin Reni presented a triumvirate at the Cologne Carnival for the first time .

The corps of the society is divided into dance, escort and officer corps, the regimental band and the minstrel band. The “Tanzmüüs”, a dance group for children and young people from 4 to 18 years of age, has existed since 2000, and since 2011 there has been its own equestrian corps in the Citizens Guard .

Like the other traditional corps, the civil guard is a purely male society in which women cannot become members. The musicians and dancers have been accepted into the guard as “supporting members” and have their own float in the Cologne Rose Monday procession .

The "blue-gold tower"

Blue-gold tower

The home of the Bürgergarde is a historic water tower from 1890, the former United German Metal Goods Factory (VDM) in today's Leo-Amann-Park in Cologne-Ehrenfeld . Rather by chance, in 1982, Bürgergarde President Hans Wallpott († 2017) discovered the tower in the middle of the factory ruins while the factory was being demolished. Wallpott was able to convince the city curator Hiltrud Kier of the preservation of the tower and in 1983 the non-profit "Association of Friends and Patrons of the Blue-Gold Tower" was founded. The citizen guard took care of the restoration of the industrial monument and gave it the name "Blue-Gold-Tower". The civil guard is the owner of the tower by leasehold contract until 2085. In the tower there is also the Justitia from 1880 from the town hall of the former town of Ehrenfeld. A cast of the statue is in the Cologne District Court .

The Senate

The Senate of the Citizens Guard was founded in 1953. The Senate is the financial backbone of the association and contributes significantly to the promotion and fulfillment of the statutory purposes and the social life of the association. The aim is to provide financial and ideal support to the active corps. The Senate has around 70 active members and 18 honorary senators. The Senate President is Jürgen Overhage (as of 2016) . The Senate of the Citizens Guard is represented with its own float during the Rose Monday procession.
