The KG-Old Köllen vun 1883 eV is a Cologne carnival society and ordinary member of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee .
history
In 1883 the KG Alt-Cöllen was founded in the "Im Kranz" inn in Mühlengasse. The bookseller and founder of the Wilhelm Müller Society became the first president. Alt-Cöllen quickly became a popular address with the Cologne public when it came to traditional customs. In 1887, for example, the KG held no fewer than seven meetings and four balls - i.e. eleven events in total - in the Piusbau in the Sternengasse, which was a proud number for such a young company. In 1913 the KG Alt-Cöllen merged with the friendly company "KG Aehnze Kähls". With the beginning of the First World War in 1914, the carnival activities of KG Alt-Cöllen temporarily ended. It was not until 1919 that members met again for regulars and it was not until 1927 that the first public carnival session was celebrated again in the Kaiser'schen Saal in Ehrenstrasse.
With the beginning of the Second World War , the hustle and bustle was interrupted again. After the end of the war in 1945, KG Alt-Köllen - after the war, the "C" was replaced by a "K" in Alt-Köllen - literally left with nothing for a second time. Over 30 members died in the war. Karl-Heinz Thelen was one of the driving forces behind the reconstruction. He worked meticulously together with the brothers Hermann and Willy Pütz to find old members and acquire new ones. In 1951 the first post-war meeting of KG Alt-Köllen took place. The Kaiser'sche Saal in Ehrenstrasse was bursting at the seams. That is why they immediately moved to the Hotel Atlantic in Waisenhausgasse, the Williamsbau in Aachener Straße, the Stadtwald-Festsaal and later to the halls of the Sartory factories and finally - from 1955 - to the rebuilt Gürzenich. From 1952 the KG took part in the Rose Monday procession again.
In 1960 the company introduced the “Paprika Ball”, an institution that has been maintained to this day. Since 1973 the KG has been awarding the "Golden Hat" every year, which is given to people with special merits for the Cologne Carnival.
For the "centenary" of KG Alt-Köllen in 1983 there were two innovations. On the one hand, the first people's meeting took place on Neumarkt this year, and on the other hand, the company presented the Cologne triumvirate for the first time in its history . Kurt Ludes, who had held the office of president of the KG since 1969, became Prince Kurt II, Reinhold Schornstein was the farmer Reinhold and Hans-Dieter Salchert was the virgin Hansi. The triumvirate was the first to be invited to an audience with the Pope.
In 1989, Hans Brocker became president of the company and held the office until 2014. In 1994, on the 111th anniversary of its existence, KG Alt-Köllen was allowed to provide the Cologne triumvirate a second time. The lucky ones were Prince Ralf I (Cremer), Farmer Reinhold (Masson) and Jungfrau Herwiga (Herwig Bartsch).
In October 1995 the company moved into its office in Taubengasse 1 near the Wolkenburg. The map office and the archive are also located here.
In March 2010, with the “Kölsche Harlequins”, a separate dance group was launched, which made its first appearance at the traditional three-pronged appeal of KG Alt-Köllen. Cassia Kuckelkorn was the trainer of the small and large Harlequins from 2010 to 2018. Since April 1, 2018, Peter Pick has been training the great Harlequins and Stephanie Hilger the children's dance group.
In 2014, after 25 years of presidency, President Hans Brocker decided not to run for president again for health reasons. The previous Senate President, Rolf-Rainer Riedel, was elected as the new President.
People's meeting on the Neumarkt
Since 1983, every year on the weekend after the proclamation of the prince, the general meeting of the KG Alt-Köllen has taken place on the Neumarkt. There the newly proclaimed triumvirate is presented to the people, hence "people proclaimed". Originally there were two people's meetings, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. In 2016, the program was expanded for the first time to include a girls' session “Nümaats Wiever” on the following Monday.
In 2008 the people's meeting was to be banned from Neumarkt to the outskirts due to the city of Cologne's new space utilization concept. Through the constant commitment of the board of the KG Alt-Köllen, the festival committee, which u. a. had a car converted for the Carnival Monday procession in record time, and the large family of carnivalists, who expressed their displeasure through the "black noses" campaign launched by Markus Ritterbach , the President of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee, were ultimately able to the politicians are convinced that the tent meeting of the KG Alt-Köllen belongs on the Neumarkt.
