Colombina Colonia is a Cologne Carnival Society (KG). It was the first all-women society to become a member of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee .

history

The Colombina Colonia was founded on 27 April 1999th A society only for women was a novelty in the “male-dominated” Cologne Carnival. In 2016 it had around 450 members, and admission has now been suspended.

The name Colombina Colonia refers to the Colombina , the cheeky maid from the Commedia dell'arte . She is a symbol of female cunning and cheerfulness and embodies the down-to-earth, active and powerful woman.

The purpose of the association is to maintain the carnival tradition in Cologne with the particular aim of only accepting women as members and thus promoting the active participation and social integration of women in the Cologne carnival. The Colombina Colonia sees itself not only as a carnival club, but is also dedicated to charity activities with the aim of promoting and supporting women and children in Cologne. By 2016, more than 500,000 euros were raised for these purposes.

The first president of the Colombinen was Annegret Cremer, she stayed in office until 2012, then she became honorary president. Ursula Brauckmann succeeded her as president.

Since 2008, the Colombina Colonia also has its own Amazon corps and other groups based on interests, such as marathon runners, a hiking group, a golf group and a literature group.
