The StattGarde Colonia Ahoj e. V. (in short: StattGarde ) is one of the youngest carnival clubs with the largest number of members in the Cologne carnival . The association regularly takes part in the Cologne Carnival Monday procession and has been a full member of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee since 2018 . The association has a maritime orientation, which is reflected in the uniforms and the internal designations. The majority of the active members are homosexual or gay .

The active members of the StattGarde form the “crew”, who wear a maritime uniform and are divided into five so-called dinghies: the regular boat , the dance corps , the shanty choir , the on- board band and the sun deck . In each session, the crew takes part in around 100 stage performances of the carnival in Cologne and the surrounding area. It is led by the board of directors, which is supported by 30 functionaries.

The passive members are divided as supporting members into the passengers and as honorary members into the first-class passengers , the stowaways and the Ursula-Boötchen . "Die Reederei e.V." functions as an independent support association of the StattGarde. The first-class passengers consist of the honorary members of the association: These are deserving club members and personalities from the Cologne Carnival who are particularly committed or connected to the StattGarde. The Blind Passiere are silent supporters who work in the background.

At the end of the session, the maiden of the reigning Cologne triumvirate will be granted honorary membership . Since 2010, and in individual cases before, all former virgins have become StattGarde members. They form the Ursula Boot.

The dancers, singers and musicians from three dinghies study a new stage program every year and present this in the session on stages in and around Cologne and are accompanied and supported by the regular boat. Long-standing active members of the association who can no longer or do not want to attend the performances regularly form the StattGarde reserve corps with the fifth dinghy - the sun deck. The board of the association consists of six members: the captain and president, the first officer / events officer, the finance officer, the crew officer, the officer for sponsorship and marketing and the press officer.

The association has its own session motto every year, which is based on the official session motto of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee of 1823 e. V. is ajar. In the 2019/2020 session, for example, it reads: “Met us shines et Hätz em Veedel more colorful” (motto of the festival committee: “Et Hätz shines em Veedel” ).

Events

The major annual events of the StattGarde during the session include the “Captain's Dinner” in November with over 1,000 visitors, the “Ladies Party”, “Jeck op Deck” as a large costume party on the MS  RheinEnergie three weeks before the carnival weekend and the “Sailor Party” on Carnival Saturday. In addition, internal and external events take place all year round, including a summer party. The regulars' table of the StattGarde, which takes place every 14 days on Fridays, is called “Kajütenklatsch”. This is also open to external non-members and takes place in the restaurant "Im Leuchtturm" in the Mauritius district (opposite the Wolkenburg ). The StattGarde has been taking part in Cologne Pride every year since it was founded .

The StattGarde was founded on March 31, 2003 by 12 members in the Bürzel near the Gürzenich . In 2004 he became a member of the Bund Deutscher Karneval e. V. In 2008 the association was accepted as a supporting member of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee. The KKG Blomekörfge from 1867 e. V. and the KKV "Unger Uns" from 1948 e. V. In 2013 the StattGarde became an observing member (additional guarantor society: Bürgergarde "blau-gold" von 1904 eV) and in 2018 finally a full member of the festival committee Cologne Carnival (further guarantor society: Willi-Ostermann-Gesellschaft Köln 1967 eV). In 2009 the association appeared in the proclamation of the Cologne triumvirate. In 2016, 80 crew members took part in the Steuben Parade in New York City . In 2017 the Willi-Ostermann-Gesellschaft Köln 1967 e. V. appointed the StattGarde an honorary member.

In 2012, the StattGarde took part in the Cologne Rose Monday Parade for the first time, again in 2015 and now regularly.

The regular boat and the dance corps have existed since the establishment of the StattGarde. In 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019 the dance corps received the audience award “Foolish Oscar” as the best dance group in the Cologne Carnival. The shanty choir is the third and second oldest dinghy and Cologne's only guard choir. It has existed since 2005/2007. Among other things, he sings the club song “Wir sind die StattGarde Colonia”, written by Marie-Luise Nikuta in 2005, as well as an annual session song. The vocal register includes tenor , baritone and bass . The board band, the fourth dinghy, has existed since March 2009 and has 27 members. The registers include trumpets , saxophones , trombones , tenor horns , tubas and sousaphones , piccolo and lyre as well as percussion . The sundeck is the youngest dinghy. It was created in 2018 and has 29 members (as of January 2020). The sundeck is intended to give deserving members the opportunity to actively participate in the session to a lesser extent, while active members in the regular boat who do not make music or dance accompany and help shape the performances.

Since 2015 "Die Reederei e.V." an independent association, the sole purpose of which is to support the StattGarde. About 40 friends and supporters of the StattGarde have come together in the shipping company, who voluntarily provide additional financial means in addition to the actual membership fee to enable special projects or individual support. In other carnival societies, such financial sponsors of a society are usually organized in the so-called Senate or Corps a la suite ( à la suite ) of the respective society.
