Altstädter Köln 1922 eV is one of the nine traditional corps in the Cologne Carnival . The Old Town Corps has been taking part in the official opening of the street carnival on Weiberfastnacht on the Alter Markt since 1953 .

history

The company emerged after the First World War from a regulars' table founded in 1905 by neighbors in the Waidmarkt district of Cologne's old town . In 1919 it became a bowling club. From this the “Fidelen Altstädter” emerged formally on March 10, 1922 with the purpose: “To preserve the tradition and tradition of the authentic, popular Cologne Carnival, especially the maintenance of Cologne customs , typical Cologne humor and jokes and the Cologne mouth - and individual character within the traditional, historical Cologne Carnival Festival ”, so it can be found in the founding protocol.

Just two years after the founding of the association as a committee society, the decision was made in 1924 to found a corps. The active corps continued to grow in the following years. In 1927 the equestrian corps appeared for the first time at the Cologne Rose Monday procession. Even before the Second World War, the old towners opened the street carnival on the Altermarkt, and elements of a carnival session were added from 1953. In 1961, the old townspeople revolutionized body dancing at the Cologne Carnival with dance marie Gerdemie Basseng and her husband and dance officer Karl-Heinz with the first lifting figures . In 1968 the people of the old town were awarded the title “Traditional Corps of Cologne Carnival” by the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee , also as a result of these dance performances .

In 1991, Gerhard Jussenhoven , whose father Servatius was a founding member and first president of the Altstädter, composed the "Altstädter-Jubiläums-March" (Old Town Anniversary March), for which the Krätzchensinger Ludwig Sebus wrote the text:

Su as in the Cologne coat of arms Krune and Flamme ,
su stonn mer old towners en Fründschaff zesamme .
The Cologne blooms, sing gloss not forgive ,
take ne old town op sing oath!

corps

In the colors green and red, the old towners maintain the tradition of the Electorate of Cologne and the Electorate of Cologne body dragoon regiment "Reitende Grenadiers von Rechberg ", called "Green Dragoons". While the dance corps upholds the tradition of the Electorate of Cologne, the equestrian corps traces its roots back to the Green Dragoons of Electors Joseph Clemens (1698–1723) and Clemens August (1723–1761), who fought on the French side in the War of the Spanish Succession .

In addition, today's uniforms reflect this tradition: The uniform of the land militia was simple and largely corresponded to the costume of the hunters, the so-called German hunt. They also used their green skirt in military service. The grenadiers of the land militia wore a grenadier cap as headgear , the shield of which was punched from metal. Little is known about the uniforms of the green dragoon regiment, nor is the green color of the skirt historically confirmed. However, green was a color that was often used to dress dragoons in the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation . When a military unit was designated by a color, it was either the color of the skirt or the lapels, so there is a likelihood that the dragoons were green skirts.

Kölsche Dillendöppcher eV

The Kölsche Dillendöppcher are the children's and youth dance group of the Corps. The group was founded in 1991 by Monika Cöln and has been a registered association since 2005. The dance group has over 25 active dancers aged 4 to 17 years.
