The Reiter-Korps " Jan von Werth " from 1925 eV is a carnival society in Cologne . As an ordinary society, it is a member of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee . The Reiter-Korps is one of nine " traditional corps " of the Cologne Carnival .

history

On February 10, 1925, the “Jan von Werth” rider corps was founded in the “Bartmannshaus” restaurant in Cologne by six members of the “Fidele Häre” regulars' table. In 1926 the society held its first major meeting in the Louisenhof on Ehrenstrasse. It was also entered in the register of associations that year. In the following year she took part in the “Bunter Kappenfahrt” and in 1928 in borrowed uniforms on the first Cologne Rose Monday procession after the First World War . In 1935 a Griet, represented by a man, was added to the figure of Jan. In 1939 a woman rode in the Reiter Corps for the first time. The newly introduced "armed arms", a heavy equestrian dance with drawn saber, choreographed by ballet master Steinbach of the Cologne Opera , leads to enthusiasm among the population. Due to the global economic crisis, the number of carnival sessions reduced, Jan von Werth appears in the Kaufhof or at Gerling's.

During the Second World War , 14 members appear at the last General Assembly in 1941. In 1945 the prewar commander tried to reunite the members. To this end, he organized fabrics and had uniforms made. Under the name "Reiter-Korps Jan von Werth 1925 Schwarz-Gold eV" the association appeared again, probably until 1949.

The first meeting after the war took place on May 15, 1948 in the forest restaurant Kürten in Leverkusen-Schlebusch . At this general meeting, an extensive program for the 1948/1949 session is set and a membership fee of 10 Reichsmarks is charged. The first official appearance of the association took place on the celebration of the eleventh in the eleventh in the restaurant Regina am Dom . In 1949 the corps took part in the first Rose Monday procession after World War II and the Senate was founded under the direction of Christian Burgwinkel. In 1950 the company celebrated its 25th anniversary in the cash register of the Kreissparkasse Köln am Neumarkt , as the Gürzenich was still in ruins, and the following year Griet was embodied for the first time by a woman. In 1952, Helga Fetten became the company's first female sutler. In the same year, on the 300th anniversary of Jan von Werth's death, the “Fastelovendsoper”, with the old Cramer song by Jan and Griet, is initiated. From 1955 to 1964 the famous "Spill an der Pooz" is performed at the Eigelsteintorburg . Due to the redesign around the Eigelsteintorburg in 1964, the association relocated to the Severinstorburg in the south of Cologne. The interim solution quickly establishes itself as a permanent location for the performance. In addition, it can be deduced from old documents that Jan von Werth entered the city through the Severinstorburg, which also spoke in favor of the permanent relocation.

Three years later the reserve corps was founded and the dance and reserve corps was renamed 1st Squadron. In 1968 the Jan and Griet couple traveled with Willy Millowitsch and the " Eilemännern " to befriended carnival parties in Canada. In 1972 the Jan and Griet couple of the year 1972 are received by the mayor together with the board of directors. This tradition is maintained until today. 1973 the field corps, the 2nd squadron, is founded. The year 1975 had several highlights up its sleeve. The Reiter-Korps Jan von Werth provides the triumvirate and the association travels together with the triumvirate to the Steuben Parade in New York. In addition, a new club house is founded in Thieboldsgasse.

The uniforms of the corps members are based on Wallenstein uniforms; The knee-high riding boots are particularly striking . The motto song of the corps is: “Mer sin Cologne boy like dä Jan vun Wäth”, the so-called “Jan-von-Werth-March”.

In 1985, "Jan von Werth" represented the Cologne triumvirate a second time .

Building society

The Reiter-Korps consists of four squadrons, the supporting committees Senate and Corps à la suite, a dance couple whose female part is called “Sutler”, the Jan von Werth eV corps band and the dance group for children and young people.

"Dat Spillche ahn d'r Vringspooz"

The namesake of the company is the equestrian general Jan von Werth from the Thirty Years War . The legend of poor servant Jan, who fell in love with the maid Griet, but who rejected him because he was not good enough for her, is entwined around him. Jan then went to war and made a career. After defeating the Hermannstein Fortress, he and his troops entered the Severinstorburg in Cologne in triumph . He discovered the maid Griet at the market, who was selling fruit at a farmer's stall. He directed his horse towards her, dismounted, took off his hat and said to her: “Griet, who would have anyone!” (Translated: “Griet, if you had done it!”). She replied: “Jan, who would have jewoss!” (Translated: “Jan, if I had known!”).

Since 1955 the Reiter Corps "Jan von Werth" has been reenacting the story of the encounter between Jan and Griet on Weiberfastnacht . From 1955 to 1963 the game was performed at the Eigelsteintorburg , and since then at the Severinstorburg. "Dat Spillche ahn d'r Vringspooz", which attracts tens of thousands of spectators every year, is framed by its own train that leads through the Severinsviertel to the monument to Jan von Werth on the Alter Markt . Jan and Griet are represented by different couples almost every year.
