Thomas Charles Farrer (born December 16, 1838 in London , † June 16, 1891 ibid) was an English painter and painting teacher who also worked in the United States . One of his students was Francis Lathrop .

Live and act

He learned in the painting school of John Ruskin and came to New York in 1858, where he was a successful painting teacher . He served in the Union Army during the Civil War . In 1869 he returned to London.

He exhibited Field-Lily and Twilight on the Hudson (1867) at the National Academy in New York City ; Beach at Hastings and English Farm (1871); Caernarvon Castle, Wales and Interior of St. Mark's, Venice (1872); Sunset (1875); Yorkshire Trout Stream , Coming through the Lock , and Rochester Castle (1878). He also exhibited at the Royal Academy in London.

family

Farrer's brother Henry Farrer was a painter and etcher . He came to New York in 1863, where he found recognition as a watercolorist and landscape painter . He was a member of the New York Etching Club and the American Society of Painters in Watercolors . Henry's major works were On the East River , A Hot Day , A Calm Afternoon , Sunset, Coast of Maine , The Silent Tongue , The Old Homestead at Twilight and November Day . He participated in the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia with A Windy Day and The Old House on the Hill and in the Paris Exhibition in 1878 with A Quiet Pool .
