Thomas Dirnhofer

Thomas C. "Thomy" Dirnhofer (* 1975 in St. Gallen , Switzerland ) is an Austrian cameraman and director .

Life

Thomas Dirnhofer was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland. He has been an avid mountaineer since early childhood .

Since the 1990s he has shot numerous commercials and music videos, often in collaboration with director Philipp Kadelbach . Under the pseudonym “Begbie”, Kadelbach and Dirnhofer made almost 300 commercials together.

Dirnhofer accompanied climbers David Lama and Peter Ortner for Red Bull Media House from 2010 to 2013 on the initially unsuccessful and, in the second attempt, successful ascent of Cerro Torre via the Kompressor route . The documentary Cerro Torre - Not the Touch of a Chance was created from the collected film material, which was awarded the Best Film in the category “Climbing” at the Banff Mountain Film Festival 2014 and also received the audience award at the St. Anton 2014 Film Festival .

In 2018 he was responsible for the camera work for the feature film So much time , again directed by Philipp Kadelbach.

Together with his sister, the artist Veronika Dirnhofer , he is involved in the refugee aid association "solidarity matters".

Thomy Dirnhofer lives in Vienna with his wife and two children .
