Philipp Kadelbach (born September 9, 1974 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German film director .

Career

Philipp Kadelbach attended the Pittsburgh Filmmakers' School of Film, Photography, and Digital Media. In addition to his studies, he worked there for the local TV station WQED . From 1995 he worked as head of the Avid Digital Editing department at the Frankfurt advertising film agency Neue Sentimental Film, after which he graduated from the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg .

He is married and lives in Berlin .

Director

For his directorial debut, the short feature film Platonische Liebe ( FBW -prädikat: Wertvoll) from 1998/99, Kadelbach also wrote the script and took care of the editing . The film music comes from his younger brother, the film composer Michael Kadelbach , and Herbert Grönemeyer . The film won the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Short Film Award in 2000. It was shown at the 1999 Telluride Film Festival (under the title Platonic Love ), the 1999 Torino Film Festival , the 2000 Berlinale and on Arte . Kadelbach's next short film was 2 bottles in 2001/02 .

He directed the first four episodes of the first season of the teamWorx- produced crime series Innocent , which was broadcast on ProSieben with Alexandra Neldel in the lead role . His first major film project was the ZDF two-part series The Secret of the Whales with Christopher Lambert , Mario Adorf and Veronica Ferres . For teamWorx and RTL he filmed the crash of the "Hindenburg" in the second half of 2009 under the title Hindenburg . The film won the German Television Award 2011 in the category Best Multi-Part .

In March 2011, filming began for the ZDF three-part film Our Mothers, Our Fathers . It tells the story of five friends and their lives and survival during the Russian campaign between 1941 and 1945. The game scenes were contrasted with historical recordings. Philipp Kadelbach took over the direction instead of the originally planned Lars Becker . The film won, among other things, the German Television Award 2013 in the category Best Multi-Part , the Golden Camera 2014 in the category Best TV Film and the International Emmy Award 2014.

In June 2015 he began filming the five-part mini-series SS-GB based on Len Deighton's bestseller in London . This makes him the first German director to have shot a television series exclusively produced in England for BBC Films . He stayed in London to direct the television series Riviera for SKY in 2016 . He then shot the movie So much time in Germany at the beginning of 2017 and the 6-part ZDFneo series Parfum , which uses motifs from the novel Das Parfum by Patrick Süßkind . Perfume premiered at the Munich Film Festival 2018.

Kadelbach has directed over three hundred national and international advertising films , for example for BMW , VW , Mercedes , Hornbach , Burger King , Chevrolet , Seat , Siemens and T-Mobile . When he shoots commercials with his cameraman Thomas Dirnhofer , they use the pseudonym Begbie .
