Thomas Erndl (born July 22, 1974 in Osterhofen ) is a German politician ( CSU ) and electrical engineer . He was elected to the 19th German Bundestag on September 24, 2017 . Since November 2019 he has been Deputy President of the Association of Reservists of the German Armed Forces and Head of the Foreign Policy Committee of the CSU's Foreign and Security Policy Working Group (ASP) .

Education, work and family

After the elementary school in Künzing and the secondary school in Osterhofen, there was an apprenticeship as an energy electronics technician and then the technical college in Passau . After his military service with IFOR deployment in Bosnia-Herzegovina , he studied electrical engineering with a focus on microelectronics at the Regensburg University of Applied Sciences from 1996 to 2002 . In the years before his election, Erndl worked at NXP .

Erndl lives in Künzing, is Roman Catholic, married and has three sons.

Political career

Erndl joined the JU and the CSU in 1991 , from 1993 to 2009 he was chairman of the JU Künzing-Forsthart. From 2001 to 2009 he was deputy JU district chairman in the Deggendorf district. Erndl has been a member of the Künzing municipal council since 2002, he was Künzing's youth representative from 2002 to 2014 and has been chairman of the CSU parliamentary group in the municipal council and local chairman of the CSU Künzing-Forsthart since 2005. Since 2007 Erndl has been deputy CSU district chairman. In the federal election on September 24, 2017, he was elected as a direct candidate in the Deggendorf constituency with 44.1% of the vote.

In the German Bundestag , Thomas Erndl is a full member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Cultural and Educational Policy subcommittee . In addition, Erndl is represented as a deputy member in the Committee for Transport and Digital Infrastructure and in the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment . The patronage of the World Association of German Schools Abroad is linked to his work as chairman of the Foreign Cultural and Educational Policy subcommittee.
