Thomas Eugen Scheerer

Thomas Eugen Scheerer (born September 25, 1949 in Dellmensingen ) is a German naval officer ( frigate captain ) and military historian. He was director of the Military History Museum of the Bundeswehr in Dresden.

Life

Scheerer joined the German Navy in 1973 as a candidate for a naval officer. From 1974 to 1977 he studied education at the University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg (diploma). He who u. a. had served on the destroyer Rommel , switched from sea service to academic life in the 1980s due to an eye disease. In 1988 he began studying history at the University of Hamburg . In 1993 he was with Klaus-Jürgen Müller in the Department of History in Modern History with the dissertation The Naval Officers of the Imperial Navy. Socialization and Conflicts for Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1990 corvette captain , he joined the Naval School Mürwik near Flensburg - Mürwik in 1993 as a staff officer . From 1998 to 2003 he was director of the leading museum of the Bundeswehr, the Military History Museum (MHM) in Dresden. Before that, he was a lecturer in military history at the Bundeswehr Leadership Academy (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. As a museum director, he was also the publisher of the MHM series Collecting, Researching, Preserving, Exhibiting . Then it was used again at the FüAkBw.

Scheerer is married and has three children.
