Thomas Frank (2012)

Thomas Carr Frank (born March 21, 1965 in Kansas City , Missouri ) is an American political advisor, historian and journalist. He co-founded and edited The Baffler magazine and has written regular columns for the Wall Street Journal , Harpers Magazine, and The Guardian .

Frank analyzes and comments on trends in US elections, propaganda , advertising, pop culture, mainstream journalism, and the economy. His topics include the discourses and influences of cultural struggles in US politics and the relationship between politics and culture in the United States

Originally, Frank was a supporter of the Republican Party when he was a student . He is now a fierce critic of the Conservatives. He summarized the thesis of his book The Wrecking Crew: How Conservatives Rule as follows: "Bad governance is the natural consequence of being governed by those who believe that governments are something bad."

Life

Frank grew up in Mission Hills , Kansas . He graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School and graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1988 after leaving the University of Kansas in his freshman year . In 1990 Frank received a Master of Arts degree in history and in 1994 his PhD from the University of Chicago . He lives in Bethesda , Maryland with his wife and children .
