Thomas Görgen

Thomas Görgen is professor of criminology and head of the “Criminology and Interdisciplinary Crime Prevention” department at the German Police University .

After studying psychology , which he graduated as a psychologist , Görgen became a research assistant at the chair for criminal law , criminal procedural law and criminology at the University of Trier in 1988 . In 1991 he switched to the professorship for criminology, juvenile criminal law and the penal system at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen , where he stayed until 2002. From 1994 to 1996 Görgen was a lecturer at the Police Department of the Hessen Administrative College in Gießen. During this time his doctorate he became Dr. phil. at the chair of Professor Arthur Kreuzer (1996).

In 2002 he moved to the Lower Saxony Criminological Research Institute in Hanover as a research assistant . During this time his research focus was mainly on violence against the elderly. After moving to Hanover in 2005, he took on a teaching position for the Police Enforcement Service course at the University of Public Administration in Bremen , which ended in 2007. In addition, from 2006 he was also a lecturer at the Institute for Psychology at the University of Hildesheim .

In September 2007 Görgen took over the representation of the professorship for criminology and interdisciplinary crime prevention at the German Police University, before he took over the management of the department as professor in April 2008.
