Thomas Görnitz

Thomas Görnitz (born June 22, 1943 in Leipzig ) is a German physicist. Until 2009 he was Professor of Physics Education at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

In 1961, after winning the GDR Mathematics Olympiad, Görnitz was the first German to receive a bronze medal at an International Mathematics Olympiad . After graduating from school, Thomas Görnitz studied physics and mathematics at the University of Leipzig and received his doctorate there in 1973 in mathematical physics (with a thesis on the subject of reducing representations of the Poincaré group ).

After he submitted an application to leave the GDR in 1976, he worked as a gravedigger.

In 1979 he moved to Munich. There, Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker won him over to work at the Max Planck Institute for research into the living conditions of the scientific and technical world . A long-term collaboration on the physical and philosophical foundations of quantum physics and cosmology began .

From 1992 to 1994 he worked at the Institute for Mathematical Physics at the TU Braunschweig and from 1994 to 2009 as a professor for didactics of physics at the University of Frankfurt.

Until 2016 he was chairman of the board of knowledge and responsibility - Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker-Gesellschaft e. V. has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker Foundation since its establishment in 1994 and from 2002 to 2016 . From 1996 to 2009 he was a member of the Theology and Science Working Group and the Templeton Research Lectures Committee at the University of Frankfurt and is a member of the Philosophy Working Group of the German Physical Society .

He has been married to the veterinarian and psychologist Brigitte Görnitz since 1964 and has five children with her.

Awards

  • 2003: Michael and Biserka Baum Prize of the Frankfurt Association for Basic Physical Research and the Physics Department of the Goethe University in Frankfurt.
  • 2009: Theophrastus Science Prize Holistic Medicine (with Brigitte Görnitz).

research

The communication of modern physics and its understandable presentation is a focus of his work, for example for quantum mechanics.

In addition, he researches quantum theory, cosmology and their philosophical interpretation. In particular, Görnitz considers abstract, meaningless bits of quantum information to be the basis of physics. He calls them AQI bits and subsumes this hypothesis under the term protyposis , which he coined . He hopes to justify the structure of space and time , derive Einstein's equations of general relativity and the gauge groups U (1), SU (2) and SU (3) of the Standard Model. He also sees a connection between his theory and the nature of consciousness.

Parts of his theses are freely accessible online in the magazine Tattva Viveka , which is related to spirituality and the New Age .

reception

His ideas and theories have not found their way into established physics and brain research. There is no established theory of everything, and for most scientists there is no convincing evidence that quantum effects are relevant to the functioning of the mind.
