Thomas Hanschke

Thomas Hanschke (born May 13, 1949 in Erlangen ) is a German mathematician and university professor. From July 2008 to September 2018 he was President of the Clausthal University of Technology .

Life

Hanschke was born in Erlangen and grew up in Lübeck . He studied from 1968 to 1974 at the Universities of Freiburg and Karlsruhe , where he received his doctorate in 1978 . He then worked at the University of Freiburg and TU Graz . From 1980 Hanschke was a research assistant at the University of Mainz , where he completed his habilitation in 1990 . He also had teaching positions at the University of Kaiserslautern . From 1986 he worked for IBM Germany , from 1992 onwards he headed the Technology Board of IBM Deutschland Speicherysteme GmbH and was also a member of the IBM Academy of Technology. In 1993 he was appointed professor for stochastic models at the Institute for Mathematics at Clausthal University of Technology. From 2000 to 2004 he was Vice Rector for Studies and Teaching.

His research focused on queuing theories, which for example helped to optimize the flight plan structures at Frankfurt Airport.

In July 2008 he took over the provisional presidency of the TU Clausthal for Edmund Brandt, who had left prematurely due to illness . In autumn 2009 he was confirmed for six years and in autumn 2014 for a second term. His activity as President of the Clausthal University of Technology ended on September 30, 2018.
