Thomas Lucien Harding (born August 31, 1968 in London ) is a British journalist and author.

Life

Harding attended Westminster School in London and studied anthropology and political science at Corpus Christi College , Cambridge . He began working as a journalist for television and has since written for a number of newspapers including The Guardian , The Sunday Times , The Independent and the Financial Times .

Harding published The Video Activist Handbook in 1998, coining the term video activism . In 2002 he was co-author of the anthology Video for Change . Harding was a co-founder of the Undercurrents organization and was licensed for the local Oxford Channel in 1998 .

Harding and his wife moved to the United States and he co-produced a political magazine for a television station in West Virginia . In 2006, he was in Shepherdstown co-editor of the newspaper The Shepherdstown Observer . His journalistic activities were administratively hindered by the West Virginia state government and he was sued for his reporting. In 2010, he won a trial in the state's Constitutional Court, and in 2011, thanks to his political activities in West Virginia, a law was passed that strengthened journalists' rights against state interference.

Harding is a relative of Hanns Alexander (1917-2006), who in 1936 as a Jew from the Nazi had to flee Germany and as a British officer at the end of World War II came to Germany. Its job was to find leading German National Socialists. In 1946 he succeeded in tracking down and arresting the commandant of the Auschwitz concentration camp, Rudolf Höss , who was hiding under a false name on a farm in Schleswig-Holstein. Harding researched the story and published it as a book in 2013. The biography was shortlisted for the 2013 Costa Book Awards .

In 2015, Harding published the story of the Alexander House near Berlin, the summer house of his great-grandfather Alfred Alexander , as a book.

He has two children with Debora Harding and lives in Hampshire , England. Mid-July 2016 it was announced that Harding after the "United Kingdom and Gibraltar European Union membership referendum" decision , the German citizenship has requested.
