Thomas Hutzschenreuter

Thomas Hutzschenreuter (born February 12, 1971 in Borna ) is a German economist . He holds the chair for Strategic and International Management at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

biography

After studying business administration at the University of Giessen 1991-1995 Hutzschenreuter was at the 1997 Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL) doctorate , where he in 2001 and habilitation was. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign .

Hutzschenreuter took up his first professorship as Assistant Professor of International Management at Boston University . Later he held regular visiting professorships abroad. a. at Duke University, Fuqua School of Business , and Florida International University .

From 2002 to 2015 he held the chair for corporate development and corporate governance at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management . At WHU, Hutzschenreuter headed the “WHU 2020” project in 2007/2008, which formed the basis of the WHU growth strategy, and the “WHU Governance” project in 2008/2009, which resulted in a new basic order . From 2011 to 2014, Hutzschenreuter was the first Director Research at WHU. During his time at WHU, Hutzschenreuter was also a visiting professor at the Bucerius Law School .

Hutzschenreuter has held the chair for Strategic and International Management at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) since 2016. Hutzschenreuter was invited to give guest lectures at numerous international universities and institutions.

Research areas

Hutzschenreuter's research focuses on strategic and international management , (international) growth strategies and portfolio changes , strategic innovations , offshoring and business process outsourcing as well as strategy process research and corporate governance . Hutzschenreuter has published in leading international journals, including the Strategic Management Journal , Journal of International Business Studies , Journal of Management Studies , Journal of Management and Strategic Organization .

Activity in scientific organizations

Hutzschenreuter is Senior Editor of Management and Organization Review and Department Editor of Business Research . He is a board member of a number of leading international journals (including the Journal of International Business Studies ) and a member of various national and international scientific associations (including the Academy of Management , Strategic Management Society , Academy of International Business , Schmalenbach Society ).

Hutzschenreuter is the exclusive member of the Offshoring Research Network (ORN) for Germany .

In 2005–2007, Hutzschenreuter organized the 'Annual Conference on Corporate Strategy' with leading domestic and foreign representatives of strategy from science and business as the Conference Chair.

Hutzschenreuter is the founding chairman of the Scientific Commission "Strategic Management" in the Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration

Prizes and awards

Hutzschenreuter's research has won several international and national prizes, such as the "Haynes Prize for the Most Promising Scholar in International Business" from the Academy of International Business , the "Best Annual Paper Award" from the Journal of Management Studies and the "Best Annual Paper Award" of the Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration . He was honored with the “TUM Executive Education Award for Teaching Excellence” from the Technical University of Munich and the “Best Teacher Award” from the Bucerius Law School and WHU . The magazine “ Management and Organization Review ” named him “Best Senior Editor 2016”.

Scope Change Database

Since 2004, Hutzschenreuter has built up the Scope Change Database (SCD) with the help of his students . Up to 2017, a total of 147 listed German companies with data since 1984 were recorded. Complete information on the type and scope of business activity with regard to product and service areas and the regions in which the companies operate is available for the companies included. Complete information about all changes in business activity is also available for the period in which the companies are recorded in the database. The database therefore contains 55,000 investments and divestments by the companies concerned with data on shareholdings , involvement of partners, etc.
