Thomas Jonathan Burrill (born April 25, 1839 in Pittsfield , Massachusetts , † April 14, 1916 ) was an American botanist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Burrill ".

Live and act

In 1868 Burrill became a professor at the University of Illinois . In 1915 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Burrill discovered bacterial causes of plant diseases ; In addition to various phytopathogenic fungi , he was the first to describe the bacterial causative agent of fire blight , Erwinia amylovora (as Micrococcus amylovorus ). He also described a type of Micrococcus gallicidus (later Pasteurella gallicida ), which is now regarded as a synonym for Pasteurella multocida .
