Thomas Kahry

Thomas Kahry (born April 22, 1979 in Vienna ) is an Austrian author, actor, director and cultural manager.

Life

Kahry studied theater, film and media studies as well as journalism and communication studies at the University of Vienna and graduated in November 2008 as Mag. Phil. from. He also studied singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and completed a private degree in acting. He passed the state stage maturity examination in June 2008.

Kahry began his career as an actor and singer and from 1990 participated in performances at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in the Schönbrunn Palace Theater .

He has been active in cultural management since 1998 and worked closely with Mastroianni Associates / IMG New York and Askonas Holt in London. He has worked in management for KS Angelika Kirchschlager since 1999 and also worked for Sona MacDonald , Maria Happel , Francesca von Habsburg and Marianne Sägebrecht .

As an actor he was engaged at the Vienna Burgtheater , the Salzburg Festival , the Mörbisch Lake Festival and the Perchtoldsdorf Summer Games . In 2016 he played “Max” in Arthur Schnitzler's Anatol in Vienna under the direction of Hermann Beil . In 2017 he could be seen in the film We kill Stella by Julian Pölsler .

Kahry has also been working as an author since 2008. His play Spatz und Engel , which he wrote together with Daniel Große Boymann , was premiered in September 2013 in Vienna's Burgtheater. In the 2018/19 season it was on the program for the sixth season. The play was shown as a guest performance at the Schauspielhaus Graz as well as in Merano and Bozen . New productions of the piece followed in Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Germany. The English premiere of The Angel and the Sparrow took place in April 2018 at the Segal Center in Montreal . Under the new title Piaf / Dietrich - A Legendary Affair , the play premiered on September 17, 2019 in a Mirvish Productions production at the CAA Theater in Toronto.

The musical-literary evening Weibs-Bilder , which was conceived by Kahry and for which he also wrote some of the lyrics, premiered for the first time in 2012 at the Wiener Musikverein . Since then, the evening has been shown on various stages in Austria and Germany.

In addition to his work for the stage, Kahry is the author of the monograph Spoken and Sung Language in Training for Artistic Professions , in which the contemporary practice of speech formation in drama and opera is analyzed

He has been designing programs for the “Theater zum Himmel” since 2015 and has been responsible for the artistic planning of the “Theater im Salon” in Vienna-Döbling together with chamber actress Maresa Hörbiger since the end of 2016 . There he was able to gain his first experience as a director. a. with the Schnitzler evening What a melody .
