Thomas Muirhead (born April 11, 1995 in Perth ) is a Scottish curler . He is second in Skip Glen Muirhead's team .

Career

Muirhead began his international career at the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012 . He played for team Great Britain in mixed competition at the position of second; the team finished tenth. He also played together with the Japanese Mizuki Kitaguchi in the mixed doubles competition, in which the team members came from different countries; the two turned 17.

He won the first medal in the same year at the Junior World Championship. At the position of third in the team skipped by Kyle Smith, he was able to win the bronze medal. At the Junior World Championship in 2013 he won his first gold medal by beating the Russian team of Yevgeny Archipov in the final . A third time he stood on the podium at the 2014 Junior World Championship ; with the silver medal he completed his set of medals.

At the 2013 Winter Universiade , he won the silver medal with the team from the Scottish Agricultural College, Edinburgh. He won another medal in 2015 with the team from Scotland's Rural College, Aberdeen, by taking third place.

He took part in the European Championship for the first time in 2015; the Scottish team finished fifth. At the 2017 European Championships in St. Gallen , Muirhead was able to enter the Scottish team (Skip: Kyle Smith, Second: Kyle Waddell , Lead: Cameron Smith , Alternate: Glen Muirhead ) after beating Switzerland in the semi-final (Skip: Peter de Cruz ) Move into the final against the Swedish team of Niklas Edin , but lost there 10: 5, as the Swedes managed to steal four stones in the end.

Muirhead and his teammates represented Great Britain at the 2018 Winter Olympics . After five wins and four defeats in the Round Robin , his team was tied for fourth place with Switzerland and had to play a tie-breaker against Peter de Cruz's team to make it into the final round . The British lost 5: 9 to the Swiss and thus finished the Olympic tournament in fifth place.

He also played with the Smith team on the World Curling Tour and won several competitions.

Since the 2018/19 season he has been playing second in the team that has been led by Glen Muirhead since then.

Private life

Thomas Muirhead is the son of British curler Gordon Muirhead , who finished fifth with his team at the Winter Olympics in Albertville. His older brother Glen has played for the Scottish team and his older sister Eve is a very successful curler, u. a. World champion and two-time European champion.
