Thomas Neukirchen (Germanist)

Thomas Neukirchen (born 1. December 1961 in Aachen ) is a German Germanist and literary scholar . His main areas of work are the epics of the high Middle Ages and early modern literature from around 1400 to 1730.

Scientific career

In 1997 Neukirchen received his doctorate from the Technical University of Berlin under Conrad Wiedemann with a thesis on the literature of the 17th century. From 1996 to 2004 he was a research assistant at RWTH Aachen University . There habilitated to Neukirchen in 2004 with a thesis on a medieval epic poem from the field of Arthurian Gralsepik, the so-called younger Titurel , the only known work of the poet Albrecht ( Venia legendi : German literature of the Middle Ages and the early modern period).

Neukirchen then worked from 2004 to 2013 as a senior research assistant at RWTH Aachen University; Interrupted by substitute professorships at the University of Münster (summer semester 2009 and winter semester 2011/12) and at the University of Konstanz (winter semester 2009/10). In 2015, he was represented by another professor at the TU Braunschweig (summer semester 2015).

Neukirchen received two DFG scholarships : from the winter semester 1993/94 to the summer semester 1996 his research was funded by a doctoral grant and from the summer semester 2001 to the summer semester 2003 by a postdoctoral fellowship.
