Poetica

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Poetica is an international literature festival with the motto Festival for World Literature . It has been held annually in Cologne since 2015 for one week in January. The festival for world literature is organized by the International College Morphomata in cooperation with the German Academy for Language and Poetry with changing topics and brings authors and humanities scholars together at public readings and debates.

Story and concept

The Poetica was founded in 2015 by Günter Blamberger (Director of the International Morphomata College) and Heinrich Detering (President of the German Academy for Language and Poetry).

The objectives of the Poetica correspond to the international orientation of the Morphomata-Kolleg and the German Academy for Language and Poetry: It would like to promote the "public discourse on topics of world literature" that relate German to international literature and especially poetry as a marginalized genre the focus of world literature.

One author curates the festival and invites around ten colleagues to work on a key topic; previous curators include Michael Krüger , Aleš Šteger , Monika Rinck and Yoko Tawada . The curator is part of the international fellowship of the college and develops the types of events for the festival week there and in coordination with the German Academy for Language and Poetry. Overall, the festival is particularly characterized by the connection between literature and the humanities.

The Poetica is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the University of Cologne as the two funding agencies Morphomatas. Municipal cooperation partners such as the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne, the Schauspiel Köln , the Literaturhaus Cologne as well as the Cologne City Library and the Wallraf-Richartz Museum are also involved in the Poetica .

format

A kick-off event will be followed by reading evenings and public discussions at various locations in Cologne as well as a final staging with the participation of all authors in cooperation with the Cologne Theater. The fact that the invited authors are present for the entire Poetica week promotes their exchange. The focus is also on the discussion with literary scholars and those interested in literature, which should be facilitated by various event formats. A writing workshop also gives students the opportunity to discuss their own attempts at writing with experienced authors. The connection between literature, science and the public in talks and readings characterizes the festival form of the Poetica .
