Yōko Tawada ( Japanese 多 和田 葉子 , Tawada Yōko ; born March 23, 1960 in Nakano , Tokyo ) is a Japanese writer who lives in Berlin and writes in Japanese and German .

Live and act

Yoko Tawada was the daughter of a bookseller born in Tokyo and studied at the Waseda University Literature (focus on Russian literature ). From 1982 on she studied modern German literature at the University of Hamburg and did her doctorate with Sigrid Weigel in Zurich . She had her first literary publication in 1986 with the Japan-Lesebuch at Tübinger konkursbuch Verlag , her first book publication in Germany in 1987, in Japan in 1992. In 1999 she published a CD with Aki Takase and with Raster-Noton with Noto ("13"). She writes essays , prose , plays , radio plays and poetry in German and Japanese ; a work that has not yet been translated into German was created on the occasion of a longer stay in La Palma . She is also a member of the PEN Center Germany .
