Aleš Šteger (born May 31, 1973 in Ptuj , Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian author, translator, editor and publisher.

Life

Aleš Šteger studied comparative literature and German at the University of Ljubljana . He has published six volumes of poetry : Šahovnice ur (1995), Kašmir (1997), Protuberance (2002), Knjiga reči (2006), Knjiga Teles (2010), Nad nebom pod zemljo (2015). He wrote a travelogue about his stay in Peru under the title Včasih je januar sredi poletja . In 2014 he published the novel Odpusti , he also writes essays ( S prsti in peto ). Since 2012 he has been writing an annual literary performance under the title Vor Ort written , to date in Ljubljana, Fukushima, Ciudad de Mexico and Belgrade. His works have been translated into various European languages ​​and included in anthologies . He edited poems by Edvard Kocbek , Tomaž Šalamun, Gregor Strniša, Dane Zajc and Niko Grafenquer in his own publishing house and provided the books with an introduction. Steger works as a lecturer at the “Študentska Založba” publishing house in Ljubljana and translates from Spanish (Pablo Neruda, Olga Orozco, Cesar Vallejo) and German (Ingeborg Bachmann, Gottfried Benn, Peter Huchel, Michael Donhauser).

With a DAAD artist grant, Šteger spent a few months in Berlin and used the opportunity to write the narrative-essayistic sketches of the Preußenpark . In 2015 he was appointed Fellow and second curator of the Poetica literature festival by the International Morphomata College in Cologne , in which he himself participated as an author in 2015.

In 1998 he was awarded the Veronikina nagrada excellent (Veronika Prize) and 2007 with the after Marjan Rožanc designated Rožančeva nagrada (Rožanc price). In 2011 he received the BTBA Prize for the book of poetry book of things and in 2016 the Horst Bienek Prize for poetry .
