Thomas Paulus (born March 14, 1982 in Kelheim ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Paulus learned to play football at SV Töging , where he played until 1994. He then continued his training at TV Parsberg between 1994 and 1997 . A move to 1. FC Nürnberg followed . Here he went through several youth teams, had a few missions for various Bavarian national teams and played in the second team of the FCN until 2002/03.

For the 2003/04 season , coach Wolfgang Wolf accepted the then 21-year-old into the professional squad. His first professional appearance against FC Erzgebirge Aue turned into a disaster when he was sent off after 45 minutes for alleged assault - he deliberately stepped on an opponent's bottom - and was suspended for six games. During the second division season 2003/04 he completed a total of 14 missions and was thus part of the promotion team.

The following season brought him nine Bundesliga appearances with a first division debut against Werder Bremen . Also in the seasons 2005/06 and 2006/07 he was in the squad of 1. FC Nürnberg, but he played few games and was mostly substituted on. For the 2007/08 season Thomas Paulus moved to the second division club FC Erzgebirge Aue . Here he was in his first season in 20 games and was only one of four players to receive a contract extension after relegation to the third division . With the Saxon club, he managed to return to the 2nd Bundesliga as runner-up in the 2009/10 season . For the 2015/16 season he moved to SSV Jahn Regensburg near his place of birth . After two seasons and promotions to the 3rd and 2nd Bundesliga, Paulus ended his active career. He then became head of the soccer school of SSV Jahn.
