Thomas Röckemann (born January 3, 1965 in Minden ) is a German lawyer and politician ( AfD ). In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 , he was elected to the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

education and profession

After graduating from high school, Thomas Röckemann completed an apprenticeship with the North Rhine-Westphalia police force . In addition to his subsequent two-year period as an officer in the riot police BPA VII "Erich Klausener" , he began studying law . Since completing the second state examination in law, he has been working as an independent lawyer in the field of marriage and family law as well as for traffic law and criminal defense. He was appointed as an arbitrator according to the arbitration law of North Rhine-Westphalia. As a lawyer, Röckemann appeared in 2013 as the public defender of the Petershagen neo-Nazi and NPD member Marco Franke, who had to answer for the organization of an attack on a bar in Minden that was considered left-wing. During the robbery, a dark-skinned bar-goer was knocked down and the interior of the pub was devastated.

Thomas Röckemann joined the AfD in spring 2013. He was the first spokesman for the AfD district of Minden-Lübbecke until his election as a member of the AfD Federal Arbitration Court in 2015. Since 2014, he has been a member of the district council of the Minden-Lübbecke district . In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 , he ran in the state constituency of Minden-Lübbecke II as well as in 16th place on the state list through which he was elected to the state parliament. In the party he was considered an opponent of the former state chairman Marcus Pretzell and a supporter of his inner-party adversary Martin Renner . He is assigned to the right wing national wing.

In December 2017, Röckemann was elected chairman of the AfD North Rhine-Westphalia together with Helmut Seifen . After Seifen's resignation in July 2019, Röckemann was initially sole state chairman. In October 2019 he was defeated by Rüdiger Lucassen in a new election of the state chairman with 215 of 540 votes , who achieved 321 votes.

On Twitter , he called the two-time British Prime Minister Winston Churchill a "mass murderer".

Thomas Röckemann is the legal policy spokesman for the AfD parliamentary group, a member of the legal committee and the parliamentary committee of inquiry III (Kleve), in which the circumstances that led to the confusion of persons and the death of an asylum seeker in the Kleve prison are examined.

Private

Thomas Röckemann is married and has four children with his wife Tanja. He lives in Minden .
