Helmut Seifen (born November 6, 1953 in Gelsenkirchen-Buer ) is a German high school teacher and politician ( AfD ). He has been a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since June 2017 and was state chairman of the AfD North Rhine-Westphalia from December 2017 until his resignation in July 2019 .

education and profession

Helmut Seifen studied German , history , philosophy and education at the University of Münster from 1973 to 1978 . In 1978 he passed the first and in 1981 the second state examination for teaching at grammar schools. He then worked as a high school teacher for German and history. In 2001 he became deputy director and in 2004 finally director of the Schlaun grammar school in Münster . From 2008 to 2017 he was the headmaster of the grammar school in Gronau .

politics

Seifen was a member of the CDU , for which he was a member of the city council of Gronau from 2004 to 2009.

In June 2013 he joined the AfD and from 2013 to 2016 he acted as spokesman for the AfD district association Borken. From 2014 to 2018 he was a member of the district council in the Borken district .

In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 , he ran for sixth place on the AfD state list and also as a direct candidate in the Borken II state electoral district . He was elected to the state parliament via the state list.

In December 2017, Seifen was elected chairman of the AfD North Rhine-Westphalia together with Thomas Röckemann at the state party conference in Kalkar . In June 2019, he was critical of the völkisch - nationalist internal party grouping " Der Flügel " and compared statements by Björn Höcke with those of Hitler and Goebbels. Thereupon, Steffen Christ, chairman of the AfD district association in Münster, sought a case against him at the NRW regional arbitration court, which the federal party executive rejected. On July 6, 2019, Seifen resigned as state chairman at a special party conference in Warburg .

Private

Helmut Seifen is married, has three children and lives in Gronau.
