Thomas Röhner (born October 2, 1955 in Würzburg ) is a German illustrator of children's and young people's books and children's book author .

Life

Röhner grew up near Munich , spent his school days in Bamberg and, after graduating from high school, first studied medicine in Würzburg, later dentistry in Münster. While studying dentistry, he worked as a freelance illustrator and in 1990 painted his first children's book for Coppenrath-Verlag . The publisher W.Hölker became aware of Röhner's shop window designs, with which he earned his pocket money, and offered him the opportunity to work with his children's book publisher .

In addition to his job as a dentist , Thomas Röhner published several books for children and young people in the years that followed. In 2002 he finally transferred his practice to a successor and made illustrating and writing his main occupation. Röhner lives in Hamburg .

Artistic creation

Thomas Röhner's work as an illustrator and author ranges from bold cardboard and fabric books for toddlers to non-fictional titles for older children.

With the "Wackelzahnbuch", Röhner illustrated an interactive non-fiction book on the subject of changing teeth in 1999 and has been translated into 15 languages. With “Ferdinand the Elephant” he designed the mascot for the German charity organization “ Ein Herz für Kinder ” in 2003 . At the invitation of the Mannheim University Clinic, Röhner designed the public area of ​​the children's clinic with large-format wall paintings in 2006. Since then, wall painting in the clinic, practice and kindergarten area has also been a focus of Röhner's work. In 2008, Röhner created a book for primary school children under the title “The Little Treasure Hunters” on behalf of the Bertelsmann Foundation . Thomas Röhner has created around 30 books and several merchandising products.
