Thomas Rohde (born April 20, 1962 in Bremen ) is a German oboist .

Life

For 9 years he was a member of the boys' choir “Unser Lieben Frauen” in Bremen . He completed his oboe studies with Wolfgang Hoth in Bremen and Winfried Liebermann in Hamburg. At the age of 20 he was engaged as a solo oboist at the Nationaltheater Mannheim . In 1988 he joined the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra as principal oboist , which plays in the Hamburg State Opera .

In 1995 Rohde received the Eduard Soering Prize . In 1997 he was a member of the Saito Kinen Orchestra founded and directed by Seiji Ozawa . Since 1998 he has played with the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra several times and has been a guest in many orchestras ( Bavarian National Theater , Berlin State Opera , German Opera Berlin , Bamberg Symphony , Munich Philharmonic ).

Rohde has played under renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta , Lorin Maazel , James Levine , Christian Thielemann , Gary Bertini , Christoph Eschenbach , Simone Young , Kent Nagano , Kyrill Petrenko and Seiji Ozawa. He regularly gives master classes in Asia. He also has some CD recordings of solo concerts and chamber music , such as Strauss and Johann Sebastian Bach . Rohde teaches an oboe class at the Hamburg Conservatory.
