Thomas Schlueter

Thomas Schlueter (born July 21, 1949 in Berlin-Kreuzberg ) is a German geologist . He was a program specialist for geosciences at UNESCO in Nairobi , Kenya . He also taught as an honorary professor at the University of Nairobi .

Life

After graduating from high school on February 6, 1969, Thomas Schlüter began studying geology at the Free University of Berlin . During the student revolt , Prof. Dr. Walter Georg Kühne took private lessons in paleontology in the 1969 summer semester , which aroused his great interest in the evolution of organisms. After graduating in the spring of 1972, he began working on insect inclusions, on which he received his doctorate on June 19, 1979 at the Free University of Berlin .

After several shorter projects and stays abroad, Schlüter taught as a lecturer from 1982 to 1988, from 1988 to 1989 as professor at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania , and from 1990 to 1995 he was professor at Makerere University in Kampala , Uganda , where he was between 1993 and 1995 headed the geological institute. From 1996 to 1998 Schlüter was a professor at the University of Swaziland, Swaziland . From July 1998 to July 2008 he was program specialist for earth sciences at UNESCO in Nairobi, Kenya. In July 2008 Schlüter took early retirement and was a lecturer for the regional geology of Africa and the history of life at the University of Potsdam. Since August 2010 he has been working again as a professor at the University of Swaziland in the field of Geography, Environmental Science and Planning.

Schlüter is honorary professor at the University of Nairobi , Kenya, and has written around 200 scientific articles and two books since 1974.
