Thomas Schneider (doctor)

Thomas Schneider (* 1962 in Trier ) is a German sports medicine specialist and university professor .

Life

As a teenager, Schneider played basketball at the performance level at TVG Trier . With the C-youth of the Moselaner he was German C-youth runner-up and in 1979 third in the German B-youth championship. In 1981 he completed his school education with the Abitur in his hometown and then studied human medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz until 1987 . In 1988 and 1989 Schneider worked as an assistant doctor at the Marienkrankenhaus in Trier and then from 1989 to 1991 from the municipal clinics in Saarbrücken . In 1989 he completed his doctoral thesis. Between 1991 and 1998 he worked as an assistant doctor and senior physician at the University Clinic in Düsseldorf and from 1999 as chief physician at the Trinity Hospital in Cologne . At the Dreifaltigkeits-Krankenhaus he took over the management of orthopedics and sports traumatology together with Joachim Schmidt. After completing his habilitation in November 1998, he also held a teaching position for orthopedics at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf from 1999 . From 2002 Schneider was medical director. In July 2004, Schneider was appointed an extraordinary professor by the German Sport University Cologne . Later, the specialist in special orthopedics, sports medicine, physical therapy, orthopedics and trauma surgery at the Trinity Hospital became chief physician at the clinic for shoulder surgery, sports traumatology and knee arthroscopy. In additional medical activities, Schneider was responsible for the medical care of athletes at the Olympic base in Cologne-Bonn-Leverkusen , and he also looked after sports teams medically.

The main focus of his teaching and research work includes sports orthopedics and sports traumatology, particularly diseases of the shoulder, knee, bones and cartilage.
