Thomas Schröder (born August 23, 1962 in Waren (Müritz) ) is a former German athlete who competed for the GDR .

Thomas Schröder started athletics in Waren (Müritz) at what was then BSG Lokomotive Waren / Rethwisch and was delegated to SC Neubrandenburg in 1975.

In 1979 Thomas Schröder was the European Junior Champion in the 100-meter run in 10.41 s. In 1981 he won three European junior championship titles, the 100 meters in wind-assisted 10.14 s, the 200-meter run in 20.69 s and with the 4-by-100-meter relay he won in 39.88 s.

At the European Championships in 1982 he was eliminated in the interim over 100 meters. At the World Championships in 1983 he reached the semifinals over 100 meters. With the relay he finished fourth in the final in 38.51 s.

At the European Championships in 1986 he finished fourth over 100 meters in 10.24 s and over 200 meters in 20.89 s. With Thomas Schröder, Steffen Bringmann , Olaf Prenzler and Frank Emmelmann, the East German squadron came second behind the Soviet Union squadron in 38.64 s.

Thomas Schröder was GDR champion in the 100-meter run in 1983, 1984 and 1986 and in the 200-meter run in 1986. His personal best of 10.10 s (Jena, June 27, 1986) is the third fastest time of a German sprinter over 100 meters (German record: 10.06 s, Frank Emmelmann , Berlin, September 22, 1985).

He started for SC Neubrandenburg . During his competition time he was 1.83 m tall and weighed 84 kg. In the documents on state doping in the GDR that became public after the fall of the Wall , the name of Schröder was found among the doped athletes. He is one of the young victims of the GDR doping system.
