Thomas Sigwald (* in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera and operetta singer ( tenor ), actor and theater producer .

Life

Thomas Sigwald was born in Vienna and, after graduating from the tourism school Modul Wien, was admitted to the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna, where he completed his acting training. Thomas Sigwald started his career in 1984 with the lead role in the Peter Patzak film Die Försterbuben at the side of Franco Nero .

After engagements at the Landestheater Linz , the Salzburg Festival and guest appearances on TV ( Die liebe Familie ) , Thomas Sigwald's vocal talent was discovered and he began his career in musicals at the United Stages in Vienna (Enjolras / Feuilly in Les Miserables ), at the Klagenfurt City Theater (Tony in West Side Story ) and at the Linzer Landestheater (Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar ). He received his vocal training from Althea Bridges , Illko Natchev and Ron Schneider .

In 1992 Sigwald was accepted as a lyric tenor in the ensemble of the Landestheater Linz, where he was able to work out numerous important roles. He was seen as Tamino in the Magic Flute , Belmonte in the Abduction from the Seraglio , Werther in Werther , Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi and Fenton in Falstaff .

In the field of operetta Sigwald made a name for himself as a freelance tenor in German-speaking countries and sang the leading male roles in well-known operettas such as Die Fledermaus (Eisenstein / Alfred), Die MERRY WOW (Count Danilo), Countess Mariza (Tassilo), Die Csárdásfürstin (Edwin) , Orpheus in the Underworld (Orpheus), The Land of Smiles (Sou-Chong), Viennese Blood (Graf Zedlau) among others at the Theater am Gärtnerplatz , the Semperoper Dresden, Volksoper Vienna , Stadttheater Baden , Stadttheater Klagenfurt , Landestheater Salzburg , Opera House Halle and Schwerin State Theater .

Thomas Sigwald has been a member of the Vienna Volksoper ensemble since 2006, where he can be seen on stage in the three areas of musical , operetta and opera . Operettts, an operetta cabaret produced by Sigwald, was on the program of the Volksoper Wien for four years and has been performed across Europe ever since. The tenor's broad field of activity is supplemented by CD productions, worldwide concert / guest appearances and directing activities. In 2008 Thomas Sigwald was the artistic director and moderator of the major event "100 Years of the Module" of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce , and in 2010 he was the artistic director of the festival of the Zögernitz cultural residence.
