Althea Bridges

Althea Bridges (born January 11, 1936 in Sydney , Australia ) is an Australian opera singer ( soprano ) and vocal teacher .

Life

Bridges studied at the Sydney Conservatory . Her teacher Stefan Haag was also the artistic director and director at the Sydney Opera House , where she had her first engagement.

She worked for several years at the Linz State Theater, where she appeared in many major opera roles under the directors Alfred Stögmüller and Roman Zeilinger . Before she started at the Landestheater Linz in 1971 , Althea Bridges was engaged at the Graz Opera from 1966 to 1970 . She sang in the world premiere of Prometheus at the Staatstheater Stuttgart under the direction of the composer Carl Orff .

She has also appeared on many other stages, such as the Vienna State Opera , the Hamburg State Opera , the Frankfurt Opera and the Glyndebourne Opera Festival .

At the end of the 2001/02 season, she retired. On July 3, 2002, she officially appeared for the last time as "Specki" in the Christoph Coburger / Franzobel opera Weils Kind wird sucht (Child wants to sleep) . In 2007 she succeeded in Eugene Onegin .

Althea Bridges was seen as a dramatic soprano on the Linz stage from 1971 to 2002 . She also worked as a singing teacher and taught a. a. Maxi Blaha . Even after her retirement, she made repeated appearances at the Linz State Theater, and also gave concerts with a band.

She lives in Austria.
