Thomas Tigue

Thomas M. Tigue (born August 24, 1945 in Pittston , Luzerne County , Pennsylvania , † February 1, 2016 in Hughestown , Luzerne County, Pennsylvania) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Life

Tigue was born in 1945 to Michael and Joan Tigue and grew up with a sister and two brothers. He attended St. John's High School in Pittston, graduating in 1964. He then studied at King's College in Wilkes-Barre , where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1968 . Tigue now attended Marywood College . From 1968 to 1971 he served in the United States Marine Corps and was used in the Vietnam War , where he commanded an infantry platoon with the rank of second lieutenant . For this he was awarded a Silver Star . He was also awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry . After retiring from active service, served in the United States Marine Corps reserve until 1991 , most recently with the rank of colonel .

Upon his return to the United States, Tigue worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare from 1971 to 1973 as a supervisor at Youth Forestry Camp 2 in Hickory Run State Park . From 1973 to 1978 he was a computer programmer with Metropolitan Life Insurance . In 1977 he was elected to the Pittston Area School Board and served from 1977 to 1981 the post of principal in the Pittston Area School District . In addition, he was a manager in the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority from 1978 to 1981 .

In November 1980 he was elected as a Democrat to the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania and served this from 1981 for a total of 12 consecutive terms. In the 2006 elections, he decided not to run again. After leaving the House of Representatives, he became Managing Director of the Delaware River Maritime Enterprise Council (DRMEC). He was also elected to the Luzerne County Democratic Committee . As of 2013, he served as a governor- appointed member of the Judicial Conduct Board of Pennsylvania .

Tigue was married and had four children, a son and three daughters. The King's College awarded him in 1999 the honorary doctorate . In 2007 he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Hall of Fame . Tigue was diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2015 . He died of its consequences on February 1, 2016 and was buried in St. Mary's Assumption Cemetery in Hughestown.
